5 Essential Travel Hacks

1. Travelling in a couple then book the aisle seat and the window seat. No one wants the middle seat so these are often last to be filled, giving you the greatest chance of having a whole row to yourselves. In the off chance someone does take a middle seat, a quick explanation that you would like to sit next to your travel partner more than often results in a quick seat change. A no loose situation.
2. Noise cancelling headphones. Before you invest in an expensive pair of noise cancelling headphones (NCH) ask yourself, do you enjoy the constant roar of turbines, the consistent screaming of a child? Thought not, NCH will take you to a serene calming place where no noise can infiltrate, and sleep is possbile. Essential on any flight 4 hours and over.
3. Bring your own content. Sure some airlines have great VOD but do they really have a season of your favourite show? Save some episodes up and binge them on the plane, this makes time pass so quick. I recently watched an entire season of Orange is the new black on my long haul flight to Sydney, thoroughly enjoyed every second and it made the 21 hrs go err...quicker.
4. Bring snacks, lots of snacks. Airplane food can be hit and miss, a recent flight I took to Dubai with Air France had a great selection of tasty food and snacks. The return with KLM was umm not palatable. Lucky for me I had a stash of unsalted nuts, rice cakes and a Pot Noodle. The staff where happy to fill this up and I tucked in to a dining experienced only rivalled by the first class passengers, minus the free champagne.
5. Had a long flight or waiting in transit, seek out the airport massage chairs. They double as a great...well...chair that often rivals the most comfortable chairs in the entire airport, including those inside the lounges. But if you can afford to put a nominal amount in to the coin slot, do so. They are surprisingly great at giving a 10min massage which if in-between long hauls is a godly experience. They are located in most airports seek out the information desk or Google before you arrive.
