When it comes to a weekend away sometimes we need look no further than our own door step. That is especially true if like me you live in the North of England with the Lake District only a few short hours away by train or car.

Limefitt Park is an upmarket holiday site which has luxury lodges some with Hot Tubs, the closest train station is Windermere, the site has parking outside your cabin and is easy to find (with a satnav).

Four of us visited this park recently and stayed in one of the cabins with an outdoor Hot Tub. What an experience! Two bedrooms one en-suite with spacious lounge and kitchen/diner, with modern amenities such as flat screen TV, IPod docking station and Wi-Fi, home from home.

The park is maintained to a really high standard with expansive fields and even a river for those brave enough to take a plunge. On site they have a fully functioning pub, with some mouth watering delights which can be washed down by the local ales on tap.

The pub is perched on a slight hill so those with walking difficulties might struggle, but when you are in the beer garden with views over the park and valley; it is very much worth the uphill trek, besides its downhill on the way back.

Staying for two nights over a weekend we arrived Friday evening and after a few drinks in the pub made our way to the Hot Tub for a soaking relax. You can feel the stress of daily life being washed away by the water as you gaze at the stars or clouds in many cases, but it is still relaxing nonetheless.

Saturday we made plans to hike a well trodden trail up Wansfell this walk is challenging in sections but it is so worth it. We packed lunches and made our way to the start of the trail and a fairly moderate ascent via a stone path. As you get higher and higher the views become more dramatic, you do truly begin to appreciate the beauty of the Lakes.

The final stretch of the walk is tiring but there’s no turning back now. After a final push we reached the summit, what views! The surrounding landscape and views of Lake Windermere are breathtaking we stayed here for over an hour breathing in the views trying to take mental pictures for our calm place memoir.

Back at the lodge the Hot Tub and some wine helped ease those throbbing muscles and aching feet, with some freshly cooked BBQ food to refuel. We departed on the Sunday with heavy hearts but feeling refreshed and invigorated. After all doctors did used to prescribe fresh air to patients, I finally know why.
